Marvel fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Moon Knight season 2 since it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con last year. However, there is still no word on when the new season will be released. The first season of Moon Knight was released in March of this year, but it is unclear if Marvel will release a second season in the same month or if they will wait until later in the year. Season 1 ended with Moon Knight (Kurt Russell) being captured by a group of terrorists and taken to an unknown location. Fans are eager to find out what happens next and whether or not he escapes captivity. There has been no official announcement from Marvel about when the second season of Moon Knight will be released, but fans are hopeful that it will be soon. In the meantime, they can continue to speculate on what might happen next in Kurt Russell’s character’s story. ..

Moon Knight is deliberately weird and experimental, at least, for Marvel, so that makes it harder than usual to predict what’s coming next.

However, given that Jake Lockley – the third major Moon Knight personality – finally makes his debut in the post-credits scene, we imagine he’ll continue to play a key role moving forward. But is he a friend or foe to the other alters? That final “shot” in season one certainly suggests that Jake is someone you don’t want to mess with.

Brief hints at classic comic book villains like Bushman could also pay off moving forward, but this is all assuming Moon Knight even returns for a second season.

Given the show’s lukewarm reception, not to mention its current status as a limited series, we wouldn’t be surprised if Moon Knight — and possibly Layla as Taweret’s superheroic new avatar — just appears in other MCU stories instead from now on.

And that could be quite interesting. Because, like Batman, Moon Knight can be moulded into many different styles, depending on the writer at hand. So while we could easily imagine the Fist of Khonshu fighting alongside street-level heroes like Daredevil, we can also picture him battling with – or against – the Avengers, depending on what mood he’s in that day.

Following the finale, Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab revealed that he’s still in the dark about what form the show might take next (via Comicbook.com):

“I know nothing about what’s going to happen… The thing is, I am sure that Moon Knight is here to stay. Is it going to be a film? Is it going to be a TV show? Is it going to be just joining another character in the next adventure? I don’t know. I wish I’m part of that story. One day, expanding that world.”

If Diab does remain part of this project, he would want to kick season two off with a deep-dive into Jake Lockley’s life:

“I want to see his world. Everyone is so intrigued about him and [I want to] see what happens in between those blinks and who he is and what does he love and who does he love. It’s very interesting for me. But I love that the small things that we put all through the episode made people, every episode, waiting for Jake, waiting for Jake, waiting for Jake. But I think it, he was introduced in the right time at the very end, knowing that con should still have a hold on them.”

And what about Layla? What does the future hold for the new Scarlet Scarab?

In a separate interview with Deadline, Diab hinted at what might come next for May Calamawy’s character:

“We kept it open, because this could be Layla’s beginning. I want it to be a temporary avatar. Having her partner with someone completely different from her, (like) Tawaret, would be so interesting and they can drive each other crazy.

“Her learning does she need to be a superhero now or not, because she hates the idea right now, or maybe she needs to learn it’s important or not. There’s so much room to go there, I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

MOON KNIGHT SEASON 2 RENEWAL STATUS

Moon Knight was initially commissioned as a limited series by Disney, meaning it will likely only have one season like Hawkeye or WandaVision. However, that isn’t to say Marvel cannot reverse this. For example, Marvel Studios’ Twitter page seemingly made a change to the caption of the finale’s trailer, potentially leaving a hint as to the format of the show. While a Moon Knight season 2 renewal hasn’t been ordered as of writing by Marvel, the possibility remains given the popularity of the show and the character, as well as the possibility of a feature film centered around Moon Knight.

WHERE WILL MOON KNIGHT APPEAR NEXT IN THE MCU

As for where the Fist of Khonshu will make his next MCU appearance, there are a few possibilities. The character of Moon Knight in the comics is heavily linked to the Midnight Sons, a Marvel super-team that deals with supernatural threats. Another link could come in the form of Dane Whitman, as his appearance in Eternals placed him as a lecturer in London’s Natural History Museum. Moon Knight’s Steven Grant was shown to also work at a museum in London, potentially drawing a link that could bring the two together. Given the connection between Black Knight and Blade in the MCU as well as Moon Knight and Blade’s comic connections, an appearance from Marc with these two new MCU characters is very possible, potentially in Marvel Studios’ Blade.

HOW MOON KNIGHT’S ENDING SETS UP SEASON 2

Moon Knight’s ending does leave some story threads open to set up season 2. For example, in Moon Knight episode 6, Layla El-Faouly, Marc Spector’s wife, became the avatar of Tawaret which could lead to a deeper exploration of her new abilities. Arguably the biggest way season 2 is set up, though, comes through Jake Lockley. Marvel has hinted at the third alternate identity of Spector rearing his head throughout season 1, with the end-credit scene of episode 6 confirming that Jake is the new avatar of Khonshu – seemingly unknowingly to Marc and Steven – which sets up a major plot thread for Moon Knight going forward.

MOON KNIGHT SEASON 2 PREDICTED RELEASE DATE

Should Marvel renew Moon Knight for season 2, it may still be a few years out. Given the slate of Marvel Studios’ multiple Disney+ shows still in development, it is logical to assume Moon Knight would be further down the MCU pecking order, potentially meaning a season 2 won’t be seen until 2024 onwards. With the likes of Ironheart, Armor Wars, and Secret Invasion all still to receive release dates, Moon Knight season 2 may not be in the near future. However, as common with Marvel Studios, it is safe to assume that Moon Knight will appear soon to continue carrying out Khonshu’s vengeance across the multiple ongoing facets of the MCU.

MOON KNIGHT SEASON 2 CAST: WHO WILL BE IN IT?

Before Moon Knight made his Marvel debut, Oscar Isaac told Variety that he was “reticent” about joining the MCU:

“I had heard of the golden handcuffs,” he joked. “Luckily, we all agreed that this [show] is what we’re going to focus on. This is the story. And if there’s any kind of future, I think it just depends on if people like it, if people want to see more, and if we find a story that’s worth telling.”

And since then, Isaac addressed the possibility of season two head on with The Radio Times, explaining that:

“I think we approached it as ‘this is the story’, and let’s just put everything out on the table on this story. There’s definitely no official plans to continue it. I think it would depend on what the story is.”

Not all hope is lost though, as Isaac went on to say: “That being said, I love being Steven. I just love it. It’s just like, physically, it’s so much fun to be him. So, you know, if there was a story that really made sense, I’d be happy to be part of it.”

As we all know, the popular superhero series “Moon Knight” is set to resume its second season this coming fall. However, there is still much mystery surrounding when that will air and what new content will be included. According to ComicBook.com, the show’s producers have been working on a new arc that will air in the fall of 2017 and it looks like they may have something else up their sleeves as well. The new arc is called “The Knights of the New Dark Age.” It follows Moon Knight’s old friend and mentor, The Atom, as he struggles to find his place in a world where superheroes are no longer needed. While it’s unclear if this new arc will actually air in 2017 or if it’ll be pushed back again, it seems like Moon Knight may finally have his own solo series after all!
