Overlord Season 4, Episode 3 Review – Politics

This show’s power levels are unbalanced and off-the-wall. The final battle Ainz fought was against his subject, who was created in season 1. It seems like Ainz and his subordinates have increased their power to the point that they are now the force to be overcome on the show. They are impossible to defeat, and not even one entity can dream of taking them down.

Since Ainz announced his existence, it has caused chaos in many other kingdoms. One of his subordinates has more power than all other empires combined. Season 3 was built around Ainz being subconsciously controlled by his comrades to show at least some of this. Although he got what he wanted, no amount of power is too great for entities such as him and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

The plot point of “who used Shalltear’s world item” was left unanswered since season 1. Now, it seems like we are closer to finding the answer. We could be headed towards Ainz or another character depending on who they are. I’m sure which option I prefer.

A lot of Season 4 Episode 3 was used to introduce new characters that Momonga will defeat in this season’s Overlord. The show is starting to adopt a tradition of introducing new characters at the beginning of every season. These characters are primarily death/slave food for the king and an educational experience for one or more of the subjects. Let’s just hope these new enemies prove to be more useful than we thought or that Ainz can do more than one minute of spellcasting to deal with them.

King El Nix spent a lot of time in this episode complaining about how out-of-depth he is against such an opponent. Momonga always seems to be two steps ahead of him, no matter how many moves they think of. In a five-minute conversation between characters, Momonga revealed a lot of information that we hadn’t known. Although it was a fascinating talk, it revealed quite a bit about the history of some things. However, watching characters talk in anime is not always an enjoyable use of your time. It was a setup episode that wasn’t necessarily a good arc so it didn’t work out very well.
