Annie January is a down-to-earth, sincere girl with superpowers. Starlight, “The Defender of Des Moines”, is all Annie January has ever wanted to do — and although it may sound corny, she really means it. It’s all she has ever dreamed of when she was selected to join The Seven.

Personality

Annie is a true idealist. She is one of few “Supers” who cares about helping others and doing the right thing. Annie doesn’t care about publicity. She is often uncomfortable with the attention she receives from the media and under pressure to change her outfit to become a role model for young girls. As she was not able to perform any heroic acts, she also developed imposter syndrome.

Annie was sexually assaulted by The Deep and felt ashamed of her actions. She also began to feel disgusted at herself for doing things she didn’t consider part of her and something she thought a superhero would do. But after talking with Hughie, she gains self-confidence and is able to confront others. Like when she threatened The Deep that she would use her power against him. Annie begins to rebel against her superiors and refuses to accept her new costume, going against Madelyn.

She also becomes more independent and doesn’t follow orders anymore. When she learns about Compound VI, and Hughie’s initial desire to obtain information, Annie feels betrayed, frustrated, frustrated, and pissed off. She also becomes angry at her mother for lying to her about her superpowers, claiming that her entire life was a lie. She eventually forgets her feelings and decides to do the right thing.

Annie’s character develops over time, as a result of her exposure to Vought’s unethical dealings. In her vendetta against Vought, she is open to using methods she wouldn’t have tolerated previously. She threatened to reveal the murder of Popclaw as well as his abuse of Compound V. She also blackmailed Gecko to obtain a sample. Annie is still a strong believer in her ideals, despite being as corrupted by her Seven teammates.

Annie is a Christian but she isn’t extreme in her beliefs. She is however disillusioned when she goes to a Christian carnival. She began to question her faith and stopped caring as much about it.

Annie continues to help The Boys defeat Vought in season 3. She’s shown to be very upset with Homelander after he made it clear that his mental health is worse than ever. This was evident when he claimed that Annie and The Deep were “in love” and when they killed Supersonic. Annie is aware that Hughie must be stopped, but she doesn’t want him to lose Annie. She feels trapped and has no idea how to get out of this situation. These feelings are made worse when Hughie takes V24. He also lied to Annie about using Crimson Countess to lure Soldier Boy into allying with him and then use him to kill Homelander.

WEAKNESSES

Insufficient Electricity: Annie cannot harness power if there isn’t any electricity to absorb. She was powerless in Vought Tower prison because there were no lights or electricity sources. She was on a mission with The Boys when any power source she could use was depleted by The EMP Supe. This rendered her powerless, minus her enhanced attributes. Brute force: Her strength is greater than hers, and she can be overpowered and even killed by the Supes Homelander, Black Noir and Queen Maeve. Her skin isn’t indestructible. Frenchie was also able to penetrate through her skin with a drill and high caliber bullets which caused her to bleed. Limited Durability – Although her durability is greater than that of a human being, Annie can still be hurt by stronger supes like Noir and Homelander.
