Resident Evil is a split-screen story. We first follow Jade ( Tamara Smart), and Billie( Siena Agudong), as they move to New Raccoon City, with their father, Albert Wesker Lance Reddick. Teenagers have a hard time adapting to a new place. To make Jade and Billie’s lives even more difficult, their father works at Umbrella Corporation, a pharmaceutical company involved in many dangerous experiments. The T-Virus, a deadly virus, is the focus of Billie’s adventure. The series will be aired in 2022 and tells the story about the sisters as they discover the secrets of their father and race against time to save Billie.
Netflix’s Resident Evil also takes viewers to 2036. This is a time in history when humanity was nearly wiped out by T-Virus, and survivors organized themselves into various factions. The story’s second part follows Jade ( Ella Balinska) as she tries to return home after her surveillance research goes wrong. Jade is part the University faction, an organization of survivors who are determined to preserve history and rebuild societies. Jade Wesker, a 2036-year-old researcher, is trying to find a cure for the T virus by studying zombies. The test zombies attack Jade Wesker, ending her experiment. Although she is saved by scavengers they are ready and waiting to surrender her to the Umbrella Corporation. Jade flees from the evil corporation, determined to find her way home to her daughter.
A young Jade arrives in New Raccoon City, 2022 with her father, Albert Wesker and sister, Billie. Albert’s decision for her to move them from their past lives to an area that feels fundamentally wrong makes her unhappy. Billie sees it as an opportunity for a fresh start. Albert is still working at Umbrella on his secret experiments. He’s focused on Joy, a drug that can treat mental illness.
Umbrella’s Evelyn Marcus, the head of the company, is eager to get the drug on the market. However Albert is wary. Joy is contaminated with T-virus and he does not want people to use it until it has been declared safe. Albert is unaware that Evelyn has her own plans.
Jade and Billie are unintentionally able to see the true nature of Umbrella and start the events that will lead to the spread and destruction of the T virus and the end the world. Jade learns more about zombie behavior in 2036 and hopes to find a way for people to be saved from the virus.
Resident Evil Season 1: The Finale Explained
Jade assumed Evelyn was still the boss of the Umbrella Corporation and had been running Jade’s business from there. Billie took over and found a way for Evelyn to be controlled. Billie found a way to control brain function by placing electrodes in people’s heads. She used a lot drugs to get Evelyn under her control, which allowed her run the company while everyone knew she was her boss. Evelyn appears to have some lucid moments from time-to-time, but she hasn’t lost her mind completely.
Jade discovers that Billie has a bad blood count due to her exposure to T-virus. Jade’s blood is the only thing that can stop it from killing Jade. Umbrella was hunting Jade because of this. Jade also discovered a way to repel zombies, unbeknownst to them. Jade discovers that an enzyme taken from Calais’ queen zombie can be used to repel zombies. You can attract zombies with the same ingredient. Jade uses this to plan her escape from Billie’s clutches.
Bea escaped when she got back on board the ship. This is exactly what she had told her to do. Jade and Arjun go back to the land in an attempt to save their daughter. But the zombie crocodile they had unleashed on Billie, her goons and themselves attacks them instead. Jade takes Arjun, who is injured, to the beachshore to search for Bea. When Billie arrives, she has a few words to Jade and shoots her. Bea is then reunited with her daughter. Jade could have been killed by Billie, but she didn’t. Jade watches as her daughter is taken away by helicopter while she leaves her bleeding.
Young Billie and Jade escape Evelyn and Bert’s clutches in the timeline 2022. Billie, struggling with her hallucinations, attacks Simon and bites it. Albert promises to help him but Evelyn shoots her child, knowing there is no cure for the condition and that he will soon become a zombie. Evelyn is distraught over the loss of her son and Albert agrees to give his life to save Bert, Jade, and Billie. Ada Wong is the only person who can assist them right now, so he also gives the girls his address. Ada is far from New Raccoon City in South Africa, and is therefore stuck in Japan.

Is Bea the Cure All You Need?
The season’s final episode sets the scene for Season 2, and the conflict that follows. The most important revelation is that Jade’s daughter Bea has a special relationship with T-Virus. It’s quite amazing that the huge crocodile, which kills and destroys everything it touches, acts as a pet for Bea. The little girl wants to pet it because he seems so calm. Billie witnessed this from the helicopter she was trying to escape. After throwing some bombs at the crocodile she chases Bea away from Jade and takes her with her. It remains to be asked why the crocodile didn’t attack the girl.
Jade realized her mother was special when she learned the truth about her father. Albert Wesker, who was a clone of Jade and Billie, had tinkered with Jade and Jade’s DNA to make them stronger to combat the virus. Bea was born to Jade four years later. It makes sense that her DNA strength was passed on to her daughter. However, it remains to be seen how that works. Bea’s power is complex because, while the animal didn’t attack her, Jade brought the zombie aboard the ship to test it.
This could mean that Bea may not have the same effect as zombies. The zombie didn’t bite Bea, so it’s not clear if her blood can have the cure for T virus or if her mother has the ability to fight the virus. Bea’s case is a fascinating one, and will be investigated in the next season.
What happened in New Raccoon City
The first episode of the series reveals that the first T virus outbreak occurred in New Raccoon City. Three months before the tragic event that will end the world, Young Billie (and Jade) are revealed to us. We find out what started the apocalypse in the last scene of the season.
The Umbrella Corporation was well-known for developing a drug known to cause violent behavior. Testing was mostly done on animals. We see the effects in Billie’s bite in the first episode. The company also tried to influence the behavior and reactions of people with T-virus. Evelyn mentioned in their board meeting that their team expects the same thing to happen in human trials.
Although this implies that they haven’t yet started human trials, it doesn’t mean they haven’t been secretly doing so. Later, Evelyn offers Bert a job on a new project. This is the proof of their dishonesty. Her captive zombie looks worse than those Jade sees. This isn’t your ordinary undead. It looks more like something that has been tried before. It could be the one that Umbrella Corporation saved from the Raccoon City catastrophe.
Although the show does not go into detail about the monster, it is clear that it was involved in breaking the world’s hearts. The zombie emerges after Albert, who attempts to save Bert and his daughters from being destroyed by the corporation’s headquarters. Its hand emerges from the rubble and it soon infects everyone. It is obvious that things escalated quickly as soon as it appeared out of the rubble, and soon billions of people turned against it, leaving survivors to hide.
Why Did Billie Kidnap Bea?
Billie is perhaps the most original character from the new Resident Evil series. Billie, Jade’s second child and Albert Wesker’s sister, is closely tied to the 2022 storyline and the 2036 storyline. She is a special mutant and must inject the blood from the Wesker family in order to stay healthy. Jade’s daughter Bea also carries the same blood so Billie must also use Bea to keep her healthy.
It is possible that Bea’s blood may have other properties than that. Bea’s fate is sealed when Billie observes that the alligator monstrous chooses to not attack her. It’s likely that Jade will set out on her quest to rescue her daughter if Resident Evil returns in a second season. Billie will then experiment with Bea’s unique blood.
Albert Wesker really died at Umbrella?
The biggest surprise after the Resident Evil season 1 finale may be Albert’s fate. Jade and Billie’s father sacrifices his life to stop the Umbrella forces closing in on them, causing an explosion that decimates the entire Umbrella complex. Although his death seems certain, Resident Evil season 1 shows that he had a conversation earlier that revealed the truth about his fate.
Jade and Billie first meet in 2036. Billie admits to her sister that Albert had died earlier and asks Jade for Jade’s hand on his deathbed. This shocking revelation is so surprising that the heroic Wesker sister goes on to share with Arj her news about her father’s death. While this revelation doesn’t diminish Albert’s significance, it does indicate that Lance Reddick will likely reprise his exceptional Wesker portrayal if the show continues with a possible Resident Evil Season 2 dives into how Wesker survived.
How Was Billie Controlling Evelyn?
Jade arrives at Umbrella’s encampment in Resident Evil episode 7 “Parasite” and discovers that Evelyn has been puppeteered by Billie Wesker. Although Billie is proud of her possession of Evelyn, and her control over Umbrella this isn’t the first time that Evelyn has been connected to mind control in Resident Evil. Evelyn has been pushing for the development of the T-Virus several times in 2022. This is to allow others to be controlled. Even in her private life, she uses Joy to control her partner’s emotions. These Umbrella ideologies are a continuation of Evelyn’s control and the ultimate domination of her mind is by Billie.
What is the Tyrant?
From the end of season 1, Albert Wesker’s sacrifice to destroy the Tyrant’s confinement, we only see the ultimate Resident Evil foe through the glass of the medicinal chamber. Although this Tyrant is very similar to the T-001, T-002 and T-002 versions from the Resident Evil videogames, its identity comes from Netflix.
The Resident Evil final shows the Tyrant is actually Angel Rubio. He was mutated by the fatal injection of T-Virus that Albert Wesker gave him. The original video game series featured Tyrants as powerful and durable creatures. This is a fresh take on the Resident Evil Monster, but it seems certain that Rubio will be the one responsible for New Raccoon City’s demise if Netflix orders a Resident Evil Season 2.

Ada Wong: Who are you?
Ada Wong’s name stands out among the many established characters who could have made an appearance in Resident Evil. Ada Wong, a beloved franchise character, has a long-standing relationship with Albert Wesker. This relationship dates back to the 1998 Raccoon city disaster and the first Resident Evil games. Leon S. Kennedy, another favorite character from the game, is also a part of her long-lasting bond. It’s not clear what role Ada might play in the future of Netflix’s Resident Evil. The addition of Ada, the famous spy anti-hero, foreshadows the potential scope of a second season.
Netflix’s Resident Evil Is About Legacy
The Resident Evil final emphasizes the familial theme that runs through the eight episodes of the Netflix season. This story is as dark and disturbing as any other installment of the videogame series. Family bonds are the central theme. Both timelines show the strength of Jade’s sisterly bond with Billie. This emotive relationship is what separates Netflix’s Resident Evil series from its predecessors.
In 2022, Billie loses her control and kills Jade’s boyfriend Simon. She describes herself as the manifestation the worst of their father. It’s possible that this moment causes the impasse between the sisters in the 2036 setting, even though it’s not explicitly stated in Resident Evil season 1. Billie resigns further to her self-assigned meaning when she kidnaps Bea in order to exploit her, as the sisters accused Albert. Jade, on the other hand, is a great example of Wesker because she puts herself completely into her work to ensure a better future.
Is there a Resident Evil Season 2?
Netflix has yet to confirm the second season Resident Evil, but the majority of each main character’s adventure is still not fully explored. Resident Evil season two looks set to explore a story with similar familial themes and a deeper understanding of how New Raccoon City was destroyed. It will also avoid the added burden of creating a post-apocalyptic environment and the events that led to it. Resident Evil Season 1 Review
Resident Evil is easy to adapt. Our protagonist attempts to escape from a mansion during a zombie apocalypse. Resi 3 and Resi 2 raised the stakes by adding Nemesis to the mix and Raccoon City as an additional world. This was before the newer games brought mixed reviews. Some worked well (the family and the move to the first person in Resi7), while others didn’t (Resident Evil 6,).
Resident Evil was adapted many times over the years. It’s impressive to see how many Hollywood attempts (and fails) to bring this formula to the big screen. Resident Evil, Netflix’s latest series, is perhaps the worst attempt to adapt this immensely popular IP.
Resident Evil, a teen dystopian drama that is familiar by its name, has two timelines. It features a lot of one-dimensional characters, a story that spirals out of control and begins poorly, before becoming more bizarre as the episodes progress. It is filled with contrivances and stupid character actions, as well as a lack of logic. This would be difficult to believe if it didn’t bear the Resident Evil name.
The plot is divided between a “Before”, 2022, and an “After,” 2036. Jade Wesker is the protagonist in both stories. She is the daughter of Albert Wesker.
Jade, in 2036, is on a quest to find a cure for the “Zero” plague. She ends up going on quite the fetch hunt, taking her to the South Coast of England, North of France, and finally back to her family.
The story’s meat lies in the 2022 plot. We follow Jade and Billie as she arrives in New Raccoon City, along with her father, Albert Wesker. Jade instantly comments on the whiteness of their neighborhood in South Africa. It’s not just the skin color of its residents, but also everything else: white houses, white picket fencing, white interiors.
Jade and Billie decide to enter the unguarded Umbrella laboratory, where their father works. Billie is bitten by a dog after he breaks into the Umbrella lab. As time is running out, Billie decides that she will return to school and party, just like you.
As the storyline progresses, they discover secrets about their father that lead back to 1998’s Raccoon City. This is a big step away from the legendos and lore associated with the game series. Resident Evil is essentially a story about someone reading the game’s wiki page and making their own.
Resident Evil is just one of many IPs that modern writers have distorted to suit their own sensibilities. Evelyn, CEO of Umbrella Corp is a good example. Each episode tells us through expository dialog that she has a spouse back home. There is nothing wrong with this, but it seems odd to keep mentioning it when we only have so little information about Jade, Billie and other characters.
A quick look at IMDB will reveal that six of the seven writers involved in this project have never written a screenplay for a major project. Bad writing is a constant theme in this project.
The characters are very bland and poorly developed. There’s a lot of deus ex Machina and contrivances that characters use to get out of sticky situations. To make things worse, the worldbuilding is poor.
This is partly to blame for the way it was spliced together. Both timelines don’t work together and they don’t complement each other. The storylines are not particularly compelling and, worse still, they all seem to be set up for a second season.
This may have been an average to above-average teen horror drama under another name. This is a horrible adaptation that plays around with the Resident Evil name and does absolutely nothing to honor the source material. I would rather see the Milla Jovovich movies over another season of this. Play the games instead.
