Episode 12 of Science in Love aired on February 2nd, and it was a big one. The episode focused on the ending of the show, and we wanted to help you all out by giving you a recap and explaining what happened. The episode began with Max and Caroline discussing their relationship. Caroline said that she loved Max, but she didn’t know if he loved her back. Max said that he did love her, but he wasn’t sure if he could keep up with her. Caroline said that she would always be there for him, but Max didn’t know if he could handle that level of commitment. Meanwhile, Alana was talking to her therapist about her relationship with Jack. Alana said that she loved him, but she was scared that he would leave her again. Her therapist told her not to worry about it, and Alana agreed to go see Jack later that night. Later that night, Alana went to see Jack at his apartment. They talked for a while before Jack asked Alana to come over for dinner later that night. Alana agreed and they ended the conversation by kissing each other goodbye. The next day, Caroline went to work as usual, but Max didn’t show up at the lab like he usually does. Caroline started getting worried and called him multiple times without getting an answer. Eventually she found out from one of his colleagues that Max had gone into cardiac arrest at the hospital and had died while being treated for his condition. Ibarada appears on the screen at this moment. Over the past few episodes, she’s taken a step back from Himuro and Yukimura’s relationship–especially since Yamamoto has started worming her way in. She has been observing and being a good scientist, even though she wasn’t directly involved.

It’s much more than that. Yamamoto’s involvement in the lab members has been a problem from the beginning. This is evidently because of her past experiences with Yamamoto. She has chosen to not fight Yamamoto openly and become a pawn in Yamamoto’s games. Instead, she has placed herself where she can get the most information and make a significant impact when it comes. All while being plausible.

Yukimura’s bafflement at the broken glasses case is echoed by Ibarada, who helps him reach the right conclusion. However, Yamamoto has not been accused of sabotaging Himuro’s attempts to repair their relationship.

Yukimura confronts Yamamoto about her actions and the reasons. He explains to her how he’s figured out that Kanade or she could have caused the destruction of the case, and Kanade wouldn’t do it.

After she confesses that she was the one responsible, he backtracks and says that his “scientific logic”, which he claimed to have used, was only conjecture. He wanted her to admit the truth. We are able to see his heart and it is clear that proving the truth about what happened scientifically–his passion for life–is much more important than protecting Himuro from such things happening again.

We are now at the big reconciliation scene. Instead of accepting her apology and opening up about his feelings, he instead attacks her, calling her a bad scientist, and slamming her apology research paper. He responds with, “Of course it is.” Since the trip started, she’s been so emotional that she can’t separate her emotions from herself. There are tons of scientific data supporting this. She wants him to be there for her.

Yukimura is a creditable person who responds emotionally to situations. He notices the situation and decides to fulfill his promise of a romantic kiss with Yukimura in episode 6. This is a great finale to the series, showing Yukimura’s character growth and adding meaning to everything that has gone before.

The lab has been part of a festival for the past few episodes. They have been having a great time with little romances sprinkled around. They have also conducted experiments on festival attendees. These experiments involve cosplaying, as scientists planned an experiment that was based on the aesthetics and attraction of Episode 9. Cosplay, makeup and wigs were key components. We also learn more about Yukimura, Ayame and Kanade in the episodes.

Ena and Kosuke

The festival is still being held in full force in the episode. Arika meets Ena and Kosuke when she visits the lab. They are all dressed up for the wedding. Arika accepts to cosplay with the two in a wedding dress and she appears to them. Arika is thrilled at first, but then she discovers that some women believe wearing bridal gowns will delay their marriage. She panickedly investigates the truth of this belief.

Arika laments her inability to have matrimony. After proving that there is not enough evidence, she chased Kosuke out the lab and made a quick declaration to be his wife. A small girl falls in love with the wedding dresses of Kosuke, Ena and decides to marry them. To appease her, they stage a fake wedding reception. However, Kosuke is conflicted between his feelings for Ena and his own feelings. Arika then grabs the pair and forces Ena to kiss Kosuke. Ena is also extremely flustered after leaving Kosuke. Kanade continues his date with Naoya. Yukimura is left alone and he approaches Yukimura to ask if she’s OK with being empty.

Kanade starts to discipline Yukimura by telling his off. Naoya then appears and asks him to stop. Kanade is then escorted away. Himuro appears and urges Yukimura to have more alone time. Naoya then asks Kanade if he’d like to go out again at night. Despite her willingness to say yes, Kanade rejects him. Naoya is not happy about this and breaks down right in front of him. Kanade is very concerned about him. It ends on an upsetting note with Naoya not being capable of coping with the rejection well and freaking out. Kanade needs to take some time to process her emotions and figure out what makes her happy to say yes to Naoya. But her actual response was the exact opposite.

Take the series in its entirety. Science fell in love with me, so I tried to prove it It is an anime that stands out from the rest of the rom-coms. It isn’t dependent on the usual cliches, be they in setting, characters or situations. It spends most of its time laughing at cliches.

Focusing on multiple episodes arcs (e.g. the Okinawa trip or the first date) or side characters with their complex relationships is a great way to enjoy anime. Although the silly little experiments that are carried out in the lab can be funny, they often fall into a routine and don’t provide much for character development or story progression. The worst thing about anime is “sometimes it’s just funny and not more”, which should be an indication of how much it’s enjoyable.

• Inukai is looking for Himuro in trash cans. This is both alarming and funny to me.

• A part of Himuro is in severe emotional pain but finds her unstable emotions super fascinating.

• The two men checked their oxytocin levels off-screen, shortly after Yukimura and Himuro had shared their first kiss.

Yamamoto is punished by Ibarada for causing trouble with her friends. It’s her wallet that she will be most hurt.

• Yukimura and Himuro have their second kiss. Ibarada is in background, with a blanket covering her head. But neither Kanade nor Yukimura notice.
