Kei Shinomiya is a character in the popular Tomodachi Life video game for the Nintendo 3DS. Kei is a shy and introverted young man who lives with his two cats, Mimi and Kuma. Kei is not very good at making friends, but he loves spending time with his cats. Kei was created by game developer Hideo Kojima, who is known for creating the Metal Gear Solid video game series. Kei was designed as a character who could be used to represent the player’s own personality in the game. After an incident at middle school with Banri, he stopped picking fights and started to “behaving a bit”.

Kei was chastised by the latter that Kei labels others as idiots way too quickly and too often. This is why he has more enemies than necessary. Banri advised him to be more patient and to look at the faces of others. He should be able grow stronger if he does. 

Banri was skeptical about their existence when asked by Kei what would happen if he went against a “real idiot”. He told Kei, however, to “crush” them with all of his strength.

Banri recommended that he join the high school. Due to the kindness of the others in Group K, he joined the basketball club.

Kei is a name that means “capital” (Jing). Kei’s surname Shinomiya is “purple, violet” [Zi ] ( Shino] and “temple shrine, palace” (“Gong “) ( miya).
