The release date for the second season of Only Murders in the Building has been announced and it will be released on October 14th. This season is set to follow the detectives who are investigating the murders that have been happening in the building. The first season was released on October 13th and it was met with a lot of positive feedback.

The series’ central question was “Who killed Tim Kono?” – and in the ONLY Murders October 2020 finale, viewers finally got the answer: Jan, Charles’ bassoon-playing girlfriend, and Arconia resident, played by Amy Ryan.

After closing the case Mabel, Charles, and Oliver became suspects in a second murder that occurred in the building. They also became the subject of a podcast hosted by Cinda Canning (played by Tina Fey ).

To borrow a phrase from Charles, Brazzos saw a bloody Mabel holding the dead body Arconia building manager Bunny ( Jayne Houdyshell). This definitely “sent the investigation in a new direction.”

Date of Release

Hulu confirmed that the new season will premiere on Tuesday, June 28,

Cast

For the new season, Gomez Martin, Short and Martin will all be back.

Cara Delevingne was announced later as a regular series for season 2. The role of Alice is that of a sophisticated insider in the art world who becomes embroiled in the mystery.

Short teased Deadline in January 2022 that he had just filmed with Shirley MacLaine, Amy Schumer and others for the hit Hulu series.

Plot

Season 2 will begin right after the deadly finale in which Mabel Gomez (Gomez), appears to murder Bunny (Houdyshell), Arconia building manager, with her knitting needles. The police then take her and her podcasting friends, Oliver (Short), and Charles (Martin) off to safety.

Hoffman stated to Entertainment Weekly in October 2021, that the new season would go in a “bigger way” because of all the actors on the hot seat.

Tina Fey and other Season 1 guest stars will be back

Only Murders featured many cameos, including Fey playing the role of true crime podcaster Cinda Cinning. According to reports, she will return for season 2, as the first episode teased that Cinda had created her own podcast about recent murders at Arconia.

Hoffman suggested that season 1 guest stars might return to the apartment where murders are all too common. This includes Jane Lynch, who portrayed Sazz Pataki on Brazzos. He stated that he couldn’t see a world without Sazz being a part of our group moving forward, telling Deadline October 2021. He also said, “Some version Brazzos will still live in an older part of the building.”

Houdyshell could also be returning to play the role of Bunny, he said. He told that being a victim on the show — ask the other brilliant victim, Julian Cihi, who played Tim Kono — doesn’t mean you won’t be in the show.” In October 2021. You’re likely to be on the show, even if you are a victim.

Tieing up loose ends

Mabel stated that there were still “loose ends” to tie up after the murder of Tim. Hoffman stated that there may be questions or things that don’t make sense and are still open to interpretation. He added that his writers and he were keeping track of them all. We have yet to air season 2. There may be some unresolved issues.

The creator has one question in mind for the new season. “Why was Bunny in Mabel’s apartment in season 1 finale? And was there anyone else in that room with her?”

Mabel’s story will only get bigger

Hoffman teased that Mabel was being caught by Bunny’s corpse in the finale.

He explained to Elle that “they’ve all stepped into it, and Mabel certainly is even more in the spotlight,” in October 2021. As we enter season 2, the possibility that that might happen is what intrigues us. Mabel’s season two adventure will make her life more fulfilling.

This isn’t the end

Hoffman expressed his desire to see the story continue after the crew began filming season 2.

“I think everyone involved is so happy doing this. He noted that there are three big stars on this show, so it feels like it’s a good amount of work and time commitment that allows for more life.” he told Elle. It would be a great show to continue.

He said, “I think what’s going be interesting in season 2, not to tip too much — there’s a little bit of an expansion on all their stories.” “So, there’s an expansion taking place in all their lives and on the podcast. There may be something there that could help us expand the show in future seasons, perhaps beyond the building.

First Day

Martin posted a sweet selfie showing him smiling with Short and Gomez on December 20, 2021.

The Gang is Back Together

Oliver and Aphrodite were used to film a scene together by the show’s three stars. The fate of their characters was already up in the air before they were taken into custody in The Arconia at season’s end.

New Flame

In May 2022, more details were revealed about Alice’s character. John Hoffman, cocreator, told Vanity Fair Alice is Mabel’s new love interest. He said that Mabel’s connection to Alice, an owner of an art gallery, is “a little sparky” in all the right places.

Here are some new faces that are famous

Delevingne will be Mabel’s new love interests. The Arconia will also see two other famous faces make their way in: Amy Schumer who will play a “slightly uncontrollable” version of herself, per Vanity Fair, as well as Shirley MacLaine, as Bunny’s mom. Hoffman said that Amy was the “most immediate yes” she’d received on the show. MacLaine’s “icy” character, which is the mother to the woman the main trio are accused for murdering, will be a central part of season 2. Hoffman suggested that MacLaine will be a central character in the season’s mystery.

New Mysteries are Hidden in the Building

Season 2’s mystery will be solved in the iconic setting of The Arconia. Hoffman claims that the building contains secrets about Bunny’s passing and Charles’ childhood. Fans will also learn about Charles’ turbulent relationship with his father. He told VF that he was interested in “exploring” this understanding of place and time, as well as how people live in buildings like these — in communal ways, with great mysteries that factor in them. “[We] want to know the history of each person associated with the building… the secrets that are being revealed.”

They will also have to try and clear their names following the murder of their neighbor at season 1. He said that a whole season theme was being set up and then reframed everything to allow the world to see what happened to the woman in the building. “The emotional stories of our three main characters — this is our true connective tissues, in a world that mystery TV series tend to not delve into as deeply as a lot of the time.”

A new look

Hulu released a teaser video in May 2022 that showed several new characters. Ryan was seen returning to Jan as Jan, after being revealed as Tim Kono’s killer in season 1.

However, the second season focuses on the main trio attempting to discover who killed Bunny, after they have been indicted in the crime. This clip featured the trio finding evidence and deciding to reunite their crime podcast to solve the mystery.

Season 2 will take a deadly turn

Hoffman revealed that he was inspired to create Deadline in May 20,22. Hoffman said that Only murders in the Building would pay homages the classic thrillers from that time. He explained that there hasn’t been any great apartment building film or show since then, and teased that the new episodes would have a 1970s sensibility as well as a “serial killer” attitude.

Gomez promised in the same interview that the new episodes would be great: “With all my confidence in my body this is a millionx better than Season 1!” Our characters are down. We have a diverse cast. You will be amazed.”

The full trailer

Hulu has released the official trailer for season 2 of the murder mystery. It was launched on June 14, 2022. It could also be very bad.

Changed for the better

Gomez expressed her gratitude to Martin and Short for making her realize that she is worthy in all aspects of her life. She said that her standards for humor, gentlemen and professionalism have been raised by working with them. It’s been great fun, but it’s made me a little more picky.
