Hizuru introduces herself as Ryunosuke Naumo, and then explains that she came to save Shinpei. Hizuru sees a shadow and hides with Shinpei. They then see Ushio running down the hill. However, Hizuru warns him not to go, as shadows are gathering. Hizuru says that shadows are flat shadows that lie on the ground. They don’t like being stepped upon. They eat human data but they can taste the human. This leaves them with black stains. Since she arrived on the island, she has killed many shadows. However, their numbers continue to grow. Shinpei spots a flash and asks Hizuru to help her. They head uphill. They witness a massacre, and there is a large pile of bodies. Hizuru kills Shadow Sou and saves Mio.
Hizuru realizes that it is the parent shadow when a shadow creates another shadow from itself. Hizuru is able to see the future and sees that she is being shot in her head. She dodges the bullet and is then shot in the arm. Hizuru then recognizes the parent shadow as Heine and begins to consume the humans. Shinpei is then apologetic to Hizuru, saying that she should have believed the message sooner. Shinpei assures her that it is not too late, and asks her to shoot her in the head because he will be back in time to the 22nd. Hizuru agrees with him and asks him to find Shinpei Ajiro if he does return.
Hizuru shoots Shinpei, and then gets consumed by the shadow. Hizuru notices Hitogashima’s shadow as she steps on Hitogashima for the fourth time. She hears Mio calling Shinpei Shinpei “Shin”, and thinks that he might be Shinpei Ahiro. After recognizing Ushio Kofune’s name, she notices a message and goes to his funeral. She meets Masahito Karaikiri there, and quickly remembers why she couldn’t stand him. She recalls her past time at the Kofune restaurant and Alain Kofune. Alain informs her that Shinpei will be late, and she questions Alain about Shinpei.
She realizes it is Shinpei Ajiro and decides to go on her way. Alain follows her, telling her that Ushio had neck marks similar to strangling. He also feels that her death sounds like Ryunosuke’s. Hizuru returns to Ushio’s neck to examine the mark. Alain asks Ushio if she mentioned that she had met a doppleganger as she is leaving. Hiruzu’s old friend Asako recognizes her and tells him that Ushio saved her daughter Shiori Kobayakawa. However, Hizuru notices Asako’s shadow avoiding her foot, and that the entire Kobayakawa clan are shadows. Hizuru meets Ginjiro, and they discuss the Kobayakawas.
Ginjiro says that there is one who can create new shadows, as the shadows numbers increase. Hizuru suggests that Shiori was drowned by Shadow Shiori. Shiori then erased Shiori’s memory and assumed she was the one drowning. This would have the effect of killing the Kobayakawas. Hizuru hands Ginjiro her second phone and asks her to call him if it rings. Alain follows her to the crematorium and she puts a “maintenance” on his toilet. Shadow Alain appears and opens a booth.

Shiori says that the end is near and that she was trying leave her family.
She explains that she has been reborn as Shiori and that she is the real Shiori. Ryunosuke then kills Shiori. He states that shadows can mislead if you speak too long with them. Shinpei is introduced to Ryunosuke Minakata by Ryunosuke Minakata. He is Hizuru’s brother. He explained that he is Hizuru’s brother and takes over when she has to do interviews. He thinks Shinpei read Hizuru’s books, but Ginjiro tells him he is a freaky fan. Ryunosuke is shocked that Hizuru didn’t mention it, but in that moment, Ginjiro punches himself, and Hizuru assumes control, declaring that they are off-topic.
Shinpei is told by Hizuru to act as he normally would and remain their observer until shadow Mio arrives. Ginjiro informs Ryunosuke that shadow Mio will soon appear, and that they should not believe everything Shinpei said. Prey can be unpredictable. Soon Shinpei opens up the curtains and they realize that Mio is in there. Shinpei kills Mio after Ginjiro shoots her. Ryunosuke enters his bedroom and prepares for shadow Ushio’s death. Shinpei saves her and asks Hizuru to assist her.
