Kodansha’s Good! Afternoon magazine released the last chapter in Gamon Sakurai’s Ajin – Demi-Human manga on Friday. Kodansha will release the manga’s 17th book volume compiled in May 7.

The manga reached its climax on the 7th of January.

In the manga’s story immortals first showed up in an African battlefield in 1717. Then, mysterious, immortal creatures began to appear within the human race, and were referred to as “Ajin” (demi-humans). In the summer months the Japanese teenager known as Kei Nagai is killed in a car accident while returning to school. However, he recovers and a price is set at his feet. So begins the story of a boy being a prisoner of all of humanity.

Sakurai released his manga for Kodansha’s Good! Afternoon magazine back in 2012, and Kodansha released the 16th volume of the manga on Japan in May the 7th of May, 2020. Vertical Comics is releasing the manga in English. Crunchyroll is releasing new chapters every time Kodansha publishes the manga in Japan.

Season one of the TV version of the manga debuted in January of 2015 and was a 13-episode series. Netflix streamed new episodes to Japan within three days of when the premiere on Japanese television. It started streaming the entire first episode outside of Japan in April of 2016. The second season debuted on Japan in October, 2016. Netflix launched the season two in December of 2016.

The manga also influenced the creation of a 3D CG anime film trilogy in 2015 and in 2016. The manga was the inspiration for the creation of three video animation (OVA) volumes that came with the ninth, eighth and 10th volumes of the manga in the years 2015, 2016 and in 2017.
