Good news: Dustin survived the events of Stranger Things season 4 volume 2. He didn’t get hurt, however. Dustin, in an effort to save Eddie from the Demobats ended up injuring himself and now appears to be having difficulty walking.
Dustin survived, but Eddie’s death in his arms meant that he had lost part of himself. Because he couldn’t reach him in time, he lost a friend. Dustin will use Eddie’s passing as motivation in Stranger Things Season Finale. He may use it to fuel his desire for Vecna to be ended once and for all.
What happened to Dustin in Stranger Things Season 4
Dustin is a favorite character among Stranger Things fans. He is the smartest and funniest of the original cast of children who started the series in its first season. In season 2, he developed a sweet big-little brother relationship to Steve. He was also one of the characters who helped make Steve a better person.
Dustin made a new friend in Eddie Munson as a teenager. Eddie adopted Dustin and his friends into their Dungeons and Dragons group, the Hellfire Club. Eddie was ultimately responsible for the many murders Vecna/Henry/One committed.
Dustin knew Eddie like a brother and wanted to prove his innocence. He teamed up with Lucas Max, Steve, Nancy and Robin to find the truth. He was also one who took enough care of Eddie to ensure that he was safe.
When Nancy learned about Vecna/Henry/One’s past and discovered what he was up to, the group decided it was better to stop him as soon as possible to save Hawkins, and ultimately the entire world. They planned to get the weapons needed to infiltrate the Upside Down to kill their target.
The entire plan consisted of several phases. Max had to let Vecna/Henry/One get into Max’s head in order to leave his body unguarded. This was the moment Eddie and Dustin needed to distract Vecna’s Demobat guards so that Nancy, Steve, and Robin could invade Max’s lair and kill him. The reason Dustin and Eddie were assigned the task of distracting Vecna’s bats was because, according to Eddie, they weren’t heroes.
Their next phase was over, and Vecna had invaded Max’s brain, Dustin, Eddie, and Eddie attracted the Demobats’ attention through Eddie’s solo guitar. They managed to draw the bats to Eddie’s trailer in Upside Down. The bats stayed indoors in hopes of keeping them focused long enough to kill Vecna’s group.
The bats found an entry into the trailer and all that Eddie and Dustin needed was to return to the real world via Eddie’s gate. Dustin returned to the real world first, but Eddie had other plans.
Eddie decided to stay behind and climb back into the real-world, instead of deciding to leave. He realized that he had to purchase more time to allow Steve’s group to complete their phase. He then cut off the entrance to the real world, attracting the attention of the Demobats in order to keep them focused on him for long enough. Dustin was safe in the real world, but was apparently upset that Eddie decided to stay in The Upside Down for what seemed like a momentary act of self-sacrifice.

Does Dustin Die In Volume 2?
Dustin was determined to save his friend, despite the fact that Eddie had made a decision to keep the bats fixed on him. Dustin pushed his way back to the Upside Down despite Eddie having already cut the rope. He ended up injuring one of his legs. He wanted to save Eddie. He did not die while trying to save Eddie.
Eddie realized that he was running away from his problems all of his life and not facing them head-on. He stopped running away from the bats and instead used his shield and spear to try and kill as many Demobats possible, while protecting himself from their attacks. The Demobats eventually attacked him, pinning him to the ground and chipping away at his body.
The problem was that Max was about dying because the whole plan was failing. A miraculous effort by an inspired Eleven was required to force Vecna/Henry/One away before Max could be killed. The Upside Down’s hive mind got hurt while Hopper’s team made it to Russia. This allowed the bats turn their attention to Eddie, while Steve’s team attacked Vecna/Henry/One.
Dustin survived his injury and limped to Eddie’s aid. As his friend told him “take care” of the sheep, Dustin held Eddie in his arms while Eddie claimed that this was his final year as a graduate. Eddie died in Dustin’s arms.
Although the plan was partially successful, Max’s temporary passing caused a rift to open that cut through Hawkins. Some residents were forced to flee to the recreation center.
Dustin, Steve and Robin went to the recreation center two days later to volunteer and help. Dustin was there when he saw Eddie’s uncle post a missing person picture on the bulletin board.
Dustin was the one to break the news about Eddie’s death to his uncle. Although Dustin survived the events of volume 2 season 4, he said to Eddie’s uncle that he would not have survived without Eddie.
Dustin revealed to Eddie’s uncle, in one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the season that his nephew had died trying save a town that hated and saw him as a monster responsible for all the problems Hawkins was in. Dustin and Eddie’s uncle were both clearly devastated at that moment.
Dustin’s survival means that there is still a big role for him in the final season of Stranger Things. This promises to be the most difficult battle of all for the Hawkins children, as the Upside Down was slowly gaining ground in the real world.
