After setting fires, she runs away. The McCulloughs spend thousands trying to find their adopted daughter, but to no avail. However, the series changed the ending slightly. Elena tells Izzy she never wanted her and prompts her to leave. Mia makes peace with her parents and introduces Pearl to them.
The show also features Maribel McCullough being kidnapped, but viewers are never shown what her parents do to rescue her. We can only imagine what these characters might do with these changes. As Pearl learns more about her mom and family, she may have a more organized life with her grandparents. Maybe the McCulloughs will search for Bebe Chow as they did in the original ending. Perhaps they will be able to find her and confront her. Ng stated that the ending gave fans enough information to think about the future.

Rosemarie Dewitt would play Linda McCullough. Jade Pettyjohn will play Lexie Richardson. Lexi Underwood, Megan Stott, Gavin Lewis, Moody Richardson and Jordan Elsass will be reprising their roles. Geoff Stults, Mark McCullough’s recurring actor, and Huang Lu, Bebe Chow, could make an appearance.
A continuation could go beyond the source material and introduce new characters that could bring more drama to Shaker Heights. The series and the book both explored Elena’s and Mia’s pasts.
